For the past two terms CrossFire has been studying 1st Samuel (as well as the first few chapters of 2nd Samuel in the past couple of weeks). To end the book, and the term, we did a summary of everything we have learned. But it wouldn't have been any fun to just talk about what the book had covered...so we illustrated it instead.
Each child had a blank piece of paper and some felt pens and crayons. And each child was given a slip of paper with part of the story on it. The challenge was to illustrate that part of the story so that when we came back together we could each tell our part of it, and so go through the whole book of 1st Samuel. Here's what we ended up with:

And that's 1st Samuel in pictures :-)
I was really impressed with how well every child knew his or her part of the story - considering we didn't spend any time reviewing before we started to draw. Every child was able to draw their picture with accurate details and very little help. It's awesome to see their enthusiasm for and comprehension of these stories (I'm sure the wars and killings help the boys get into them!) Bring on term 3 and 2nd Samuel!
